Vivian Goodman

VIVIAN MAE BURLEY GOODMAN was born on October 27, 1936, in Baltimore, Maryland to the late William Henry Burley and Lillian Garrett Burley. She departed this life on February 15, 2024. Vivian was affectionately known by family as Ticky. Vivian received her education in The Baltimore City Public School System. She accepted Christ in her life at an early age. Vivian attended church frequently. She often visited several places of worship, but she loved to fellowship at Bethany Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland. She met and later married the late Robert Goodman on November 23,1955. They were married for 42 years until his death in 1997. From this union four daughters were born, whom she loved dearly. Vivian loved helping others, which included her time of employment at Spring Grove Hospital. She held various positions as a home health aide caring for others. Her compassion for children landed her with The Baltimore City Public City School System for more than ten years including Arundel Elementary School where she retired to enjoy spending time with her grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who brought so much love and joy to her family. Vivian loved being pampered, which included getting her hair done with her sister, Agnes, by her stylist Deborah. Every Sunday Vivian watched her favorite team the Baltimore Ravens and cheered them on to victory. She had a passion for cooking. Everyone loved her baking, especially her sweet potato pies. Traveling was another one of her great loves, she often traveled to visit her siblings. In her free time, she created memories with her children and grandchildren that will be cherished. She enjoyed shopping, donating to charity and browsing her Fingerhut catalog. She was a pillar of strength and support, always there to listen, comfort and guide you through life’s ups and downs. Her love knew no bounds. You could always depend on Vivian’s encouraging words in a greeting card at any given time. Vivian is preceded in death by her parents Willam Burley and Lillian Burley, husband Robert Goodman, daughter Jerilyn Goodman, four brothers Grant Burley, Ray Burley, Robert Burley, Oscar Burley, five sisters Irene Parker, Hilda Malette, Janice Booker, Inez Turner, Beulah Rose, and her grandson Lamont Johnson. She leaves to cherish her memory: sisters, Fannie Mae (Anne) Groce, Agnes Fields, brother Grafton Burley (Linda Burley); daughters, Jacqueline Smith (Gregory Smith), Gwendolyn Goodman, Joycelyn Goodman; grandchildren, Shantel Smith, William Simmons (Tamika Simmons), LaCurtis Johnson, Tranay Smith, Shanay Smith, Dayvon Simmons, Tavion Johnson (Shawntaye Johnson), Kayla Dillard, Jeria Simmons; seven great-grandchildren, Jhaiyel, Hasan, Taylor, Kuhmora, Taryn, Klay, and Tarasen; one great-great granddaughter, Zoelani; and her good friends, Rita and Audrey. As we mourn the loss of our loved one, we take solace in knowing that her spirit will live on in the love and memories she leaves behind. Vivian will be immensely missed but never forgotten.
