Mr. Slader James Yorke

Today we have gathered to celebrate the memories and to eulogize our beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grand/great grand uncle, cousin, and friend. Slader. It was 1940 on the island of Jamaica, in the parish of St. Ann, in the quiet Retirement district. Inez and Lindo Yorke, now deceased, welcomed their bundle of joy. He was the 3rd of 13 children. He began his early education at the Retirement Infant School, then Retirement Primary School at the age of 10. He was successful in the Common Entrance Examination and transitioned to Oberlin High School in St. Andrew. Slader spent most of his teenage years away from home as he was boarding. He came home for all the holiday breaks. During these breaks, as his younger siblings were still living at home, he would teach us life skills, such as how to read the clock and properly use a knife and fork. He was more than a brother; he was a guiding light and a loyal friend, and an irreplaceable presence in our lives. He wanted all of his siblings to excel academically, and he would insist that we continue to educate ourselves through higher learning. Growing up with Slader was an adventure; he was always there. Whether to offer a helping hand, share a joke, or provide a shoulder to lean on. His passion for life was evident in everything he did, from his dedication to his work to the love he showed his family and friends. Slader had an incredible ability to spread joy to others. His resilience in the face of challenges was truly inspiring, teaching us all the value of perseverance and optimism. Though Slader's time ended at 85 years, the impact he made will last forever. Slader migrated to the USA in 1971. Before migrating, he worked as an accounting officer with the sugar industry and a car dealership. He changed his career to health, where he worked for 40 years at Fairland nursing home. In 2011, he decided it was time to retire from active duties. Slader's legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched and the memories we hold dear. We will miss you terribly, but we are grateful for the time we had and the lessons you taught us. Your spirit will forever be our guide. Slader survived by his wife Vivienne, son Kevin, six brothers, six sisters, nieces, nephews, grand and great-grandnieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends who now mourn his tremendous loss. Sleep on my brother, so rest in the loving arms of Father Abraham.
