Edna Rae Dukes

Edna Rae Vick Dukes, age 85, peacefully transitioned at Harbor Hospital Hospice on April 13, 2026, in Baltimore, Maryland. Born on May 29, 1940, in Jackson, North Carolina, in a community known as Occoneechee Neck, Edna was educated in the Northampton County Public Schools and was baptized at a young age at Roanoke Chapel Baptist Church. Edna was a woman of grace, strength, and unwavering love for her family. She was known for her warm spirit and kind heart, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she encountered. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—fishing, cooking, gardening, and floral design. Edna also took great pride in her style and in caring for her beautiful red hair, which was a signature of her elegance and presence. She especially cherished spending time on her front porch, sharing conversations with her devoted neighbor, Mae, and making memories with loved ones. She also enjoyed returning home to North Carolina, where she spent time vacationing with family and friends, reconnecting with her roots and community. Edna dedicated over 40 years of hard work and service, including her time at General Electric Company and other manufacturing roles before retiring. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie Sr. and Harriet Vick, a stepdaughter, Rosa M. Joiner; five brothers, Jessie Wilkins, Robert Wilkins, Clinton Vick, Larry Vick, and Clevi Pittman; and five sisters, Jean Vick, Phyllis Perry, Deci Hill, Hattie Mae Vick Davis, and Helen Watkins. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, John A. Dukes. Her devoted daughter, Sheila Lee (James) of Abingdon, Maryland, two stepdaughters Lauren Dukes of New Jersey, and Estoria Lynn Jones (Arnold) of Baltimore, Maryland; her sister, Culey “Vicki” Kilimanjaro of Greensboro, North Carolina; her brother, Lonnie Vick Jr. (Carrie) of Abingdon, Maryland; her grandchildren, Wendell (Denise), Archie, Jasmine (Dwayne),James (Miya), Trai, Erica, Justine, and Justin; her great-grandchildren, Asia, Dwayne Jr., Phoenix, Amir, Alexis, Aniya, Kiya, Malik, Madison, Qyteria, Armoni, Ar'che, Denver, Melrose, Aubrey, Alston, Ja'mier, and Ah'mari; and6 great-great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Edna’s love, strength, and legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
