Cheryl Irene Hughes-Lewis

Cheryl Irene Hughes-Lewis, affectionately known by her daughter as “Lewy”, daughter of the late James Robert Hughes and the late Gladys Mae Covington was born on August 18, 1964, in Baltimore, Maryland. She departed this earthly life suddenly on August 17,2022. Cheryl received her education through the Baltimore Maryland School System. Upon completion of primary school, Cheryl served her full term in the United States Army Reserve. She received her Degree as a Paralegal on June 12 ,1988. Cheryl later married and out of that union one daughter was born, Tiffany Aremu (Lewis), whom she loved immensely. She often referred to her daughter as the “Best Part of Her” and a “pain in her big toe”. If you knew Cheryl well, then you know what was really said lol. Cheryl was a dedicated employee at Good Samaritan Hospital of Medstar Health Systems for 35 years. Her current position upon her departure was Supply-Chain Supervisor for the Operating Room. She was a workaholic with remarkable work ethics, she got the job done! The entire hospital knew her as she would either give her infectious smile, a hug, belly laugh or a snack every time she ran into you. She believed in treating everyone with dignity and respect. Throughout the years “Lewy” had many businesses, from hairdressing, tax preparation, to having catalog parties for the ladies. She was a natural entrepreneur and giving her daughter the best life and taking care of her family was her priority. Cheryl loved living life; she was the life of ANY party. She loved to shop, read, and traveling the world. Spending time with her children, beautiful grandchildren, and sisters (her besties) were the highlights of her life. “Lewy” just enjoyed loving on her loved ones every opportunity she got. Her favorite past-time was staying up late watching TV and scratching scratch-offs knowing she had to get up early LOL— she was NOT a morning person. Her family meant the world to her, and she would go above and beyond to make her friends feel special. Cheryl loved the Lord, she would pray for anyone, anytime, no matter where she was. “The anointing breaks the yoke and close the gap” was her favorite thing to say for beginning prayer and her family would crack up laughing. Cheryl was a rare gem, and her love was unmatched. Preceding her in death are her Grandmother, Irene Porter; Mother, Gladys Mae Covington; Father, James Robert Hughes and Niece, Angela Nicole Burch. She leaves her legacy to be lived on by Theodore Lucas; only daughter, Tiffany Renee Aremu (Lewis); Son, Ola Aremu (we don’t do in-laws); granddaughters, Keyara Irene and Zoey Ayomide; grandson, Kemari Isaiah; Sisters, Janice and Monique; Brothers, Jeffery and Keith; Niece, Janice; Nephew, Aljerice Sr.; Great-nieces, Destiny, Ziara and Payton; Great-nephew, Aljerice Jr. and a host of extended family, wonderful relatives and friends. Cheryl’s ‘love each other’ legacy lives on!
