Maynard C. Adams

MAYNARD CARROLL ADAMS, son of the late William Thomas Adams and Mary Penny Jenkins-Adams, was born on January 20, 1954 in Lutherville, Maryland. Quietly and peacefully on Monday, October 10, 2023, Maynard went home to be with the Lord. The seeds of educational excellence were planted in Maynard early in life. He began his education at Lutherville Elementary School. He also attended Towson Senior High School. After graduation, Maynard attended Morgan State College (University) and graduated with an Associate of Arts degree. Maynard enjoyed all kinds of sports, especially track and field. Maynard was particularly fond of hurdling. After graduation, Maynard pursued a career at Rosewood State Center for fourteen years. Upon leaving Rosewood, Maynard sought employment with the Division of Correction as a correctional officer at the Patuxent Institute in Jessup, Maryland. His tenure at the Patuxent Institution lasted for twenty five years. In 2005, Maynard retired from corrections as a Lieutenant. However, retirement would not allow Maynard to sit idle. He went on to work at Laurel Racetrack and retired in 2018. Maynard met his soulmate, Dawn A. Dorsey while working at Patuxent Institution. After many visits and surprise lunches to Dawn’s office, and after a few “no’s”, the two began a lengthy courtship. Maynard and Dawn officially began dating in June of 1998, with a first date at Columbia Lake. They were later united in holy matrimony on May 7, 1999. Maynard and Dawn were blessed to blend their families with three beautiful daughters and five grandchildren, who were the joys of his life. Maynard loved spending time with his family. They enjoyed traveling, spending weekends at the beach, trying new restaurants and family nights. He never missed an opportunity to explore a new city or country with his family. They went to Disney World, the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Grand Cayman. His greatest desire was for his children and grandchilden to have as many experiences as possible. Maynatd spent the last three years of life battling Multiple Myeloma cancer, which is a rare blood cancer that develops in plasma cells in the bone marrow. Although its progression impacted his entire body, it never touched his spirit. It never stopped him from creating lasting memories with family and friends. Maynard’s all-time favorite thing to do was spending time with family in “DR”, playing music and reminiscing on old school songs. Maynard leaves to cherish his memory: a loving and devoted wife, Dawn A. Adams; three daughters, Lanie Pierce, Ronee Richardson and Ebony Martin Pretto; son-in-law, Javier Pretto; five grandchildren, Phillip IV (PJ), Kori, Essence, Justice and Javier (EJ); three brothers and three sisters who preceded him in death; one surviving sister, Celeste Adams; two brothers-in-law, Jermaine Lemon (La’Kisha) and Jevon Dorsey (Dee); three sisters-in-law, Marcella Carey, Lauren Alexander ( Jerron) and Carolyn Adams; father-in-law, Preston Dorsey; bonus mom, Jackie Harris-Johnson; best friend, Sean McFadden; a host of loving nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
