Leonidas "Leo" Kevin Bates

On Wednesday, November 9, 2022, God in His infinite wisdom whispered the name of our beloved LEONIDAS KEVIN BATES, welcoming him home for rest and peace. Leonidas Kevin Bates, affectionately called “Kevin” or “Leo”, was born in Baltimore, Maryland to Earline Bates (his Earl as he like to call her) and the late Lorenzo Bates on June 8th, 1964. Kevin received his education in the Baltimore City Public School System where he attended Southwestern High School and graduated with honors. Thereafter he held various employment endeavors starting out as a young man such as B. Green, Concrete & Pipe, Sam’s Club, and a host of transportation jobs (MV Transportation, First Transportation, and National Express); where he held various positions such as Classroom Trainer and Safety Manager. As you can tell he was a hard-working provider, we like to call him our super Ninja. As a young boy he attended church with his parents where he sang on the choir. Kevin played football and softball; he was proud when he won the World’s Series of Softball in 1999. Kevin met Doreen on January 20, 1997, at Melba’s on Monroe St. After 20 years of learning and loving one another, they married on May 20, 2017, with one child in union. Doreen had the honor of loving Kevin for five additional years before he departed. It was never a dull moment when he was around, he was known for cracking a joke, his witty personality and infectious smile. He was well respected by all that met him. Kevin meant so much to so many and his legacy will live on. Kevin was preceded in death by his dad Lorenzo, who will be standing there waiting for him with open arms. Cherishing his memory, he is survived by: his loving wife, Doreen Bates; his mother, Earline Bates; only brother, Darrin (Gwendolyn); five children, Nakia, only son Katrell (Andrea), Deidre, Angelik, Danay; seven grandkids, Keston, Jaylen, Arylnn, DeLani, Isaiah, Demi, Zyaire, and the expected arrival of Dakotah; one daughter-in-law, Andrea; two sisters-in-law, Zelda and Gwendolyn; four brothers-in-law, Eugene, James, Jeffery and Kenneth; and a host of other relatives and friends.
