Kevin T. Barnes

Kevin Tyrone Barnes, son of the late John Henry Barnes and Rosa Elizabeth Cornick, was born on July 15, 1965, in the South Bronx of New York. In 1995, Kevin relocated to Severna Park, Maryland, where he met and married his wife, Lisa Lucille Barnes. Kevin and Lisa lived in Maryland for 12 years. After which, Kevin and Lisa bought a home and moved to York, Pennsylvania. Kevin resided in Pennsylvania until the end of his life’s journey. Kevin departed from this life on March 8, 2022, at the age of 56. At the early age of 12 and the beckoning of the late Pastor Betty J. Page, Kevin accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at Rose of Sharon Sabbath Apostolic Church in Maryland. The love of Christ was often demonstrated in his life through his hospitality and concern for others’ well-being. His love for cooking and hosting guests, friends, family, and sometimes even strangers in his home was one of his many ways of serving and providing a sense of family and community to so many others. Kevin’s commitment to unity, family, and serving others was always evident and truly inspired both family and friends. Kevin completed his education in New York and continued through additional courses at Harrisburg Area Community College in York, Pennsylvania. Kevin’s passion for criminal justice studies fueled his long-time commitment and career as an armed security officer. He was also fascinated by Black Hebrew history and knowledgeable of old-school rap and hip hop. Kevin was an amateur boxer, an avid boxing fan, and a martial arts enthusiast. Anyone who knew Kevin well recognized his commitment to physical fitness and health, given his passion for boxing, various martial arts, and herbalism practice. Kevin was also a music enthusiast and loved making music instrumentally and lyrically. Among many passions and roles, Kevin devotedly and affectionately served as a surrogate father to many children. Kevin will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 26 years, Lisa L. Barnes, and his adopted children, Miranda Alexander and Malcolm Redd. Kevin was preceded in death by his grandparents, the late James and Eula Mae Barnes and Moses and Rosa Lee Mitchell. Kevin was the youngest brother to six siblings and had numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Kevin leaves behind his older sister Phyllis (Raymond Sr.) Smith, older brothers Ronald Cornick, Joe (Shelandra) Cornick, and Melvin Cornick. He will join his two brothers, the late Elliot Van Cornick and Todd Henry Barnes, in heaven.
