George P. Gross

George P. Gross was born on December 8, 1943 to the late William H. and Hattie H. Gross. He departed this life on November 17, 2019 after a brief illness. George received his formal education in the Baltimore City Public Schools System, after which he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he reached the rank of E-5/Drill Sergeant. After fulfilling his obligation to his country, George obtained employment as a printer at the Waverly Press Company in Baltimore, MD. In 1993, the company merged under Cadmus Communications in Richmond, Virginia. George remained with the company, becoming a supervisor in the Graphics Communications Division. He held this position until he retired in 2003. As a young man, George met and fell in love with Beverly L. Pryor. They were married on November 14, 1970. From this union, they raised two wonderful children. George was a loyal and devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. Everyone blessed to know and love him will sincerely miss him. Bowling, gambling and reading James Patterson novels were just a few of his favorite things to do. Whenever you came over to the house, his TV would always have some old Western playing, until Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune came on and then Beverly took over. You also never saw George without one of his hats with one of the Negro baseball leagues engraved on the front or something related to Baltimore. George came from a big family and truly enjoyed spending all his time with them. He loved to travel with his wife and friends to Las Vegas every year and go to Virginia Beach every other year for the Gross Family Circle reunions. One of George’s last wishes was to travel more. This year, he enjoyed traveling to Dover Downs with his daughter and son-in-law, taking day trips with his son to Maryland Live, proudly watching his youngest granddaughter, Nikayla, graduate from Morgan State University and going on the graduation cruise, attending the Gross Family Circle reunion to Virginia Beach, and attending the annual picnic at Patapsco State Park. His legacy of loving and cracking jokes with the family will live on with us all forever. George’s wife, Beverly, mother Hattie, father William Sr., sister Frieda, and brother-in-laws Jerry and Sonny preceded him in death. George leaves to cherish his memory: daughter, Diana (Carlton); son, George Jr. (Yanira); three brothers, William Jr. (Ellen), Louis (Lois), and Michael; four sisters, Hattie, Cynthia, Dorothy (M.L.) and Lucille; four grandchildren, Shatara, Nikayla, Julian and Darrius; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
