Falas H. Mobley, Jr., 75, of Pikesville, Md., transitioned from this life on August 27, 2020. He was born November 10, 1944, in Winnsboro, South Carolina, as the eldest child of Falas H. Mobley, Sr., and Willie S. Mobley. In a private ceremony, he will be interred on Friday, September 4, at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens, 200 E. Padonia Road, Timonium, MD 21093. A celebration of life will be held at a later date to include family and friends. Falas was a florist and proprietor of Lakeside Floral and Lord Baltimore Florist in Baltimore, MD. Over his 43-year career, he brought joy to hundreds of thousands of lives by helping them celebrate their most intimate moments of life—birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, and Bar Mitzvahs, for example. For many clients, he became a trusted friend and confidant because he always had a kind word or wise advice to share. In addition to his warmth, he was known by clients to deliver timely and quality service. He had natural talent to elevate a simple, yet beautiful flower to a work of art. During busy holidays, like Valentine’s Day or the Christmas season, he often worked through the night for days to ensure the timely processing of every order. He was also co-owner of the Silver Streak Lounge, along with his siblings. Falas was a true entrepreneur with an unmatched work ethic. He would often say “Be your own boss, work hard, and don’t worry it will all work out.” On July 23, 1967, he married the love of his life, Maxine Best. They met through a mutual friend and spent the next 53 years together creating a legacy of love and family, including two sons, Darrell and Bryan. For Falas, family was his reason waking in the morning and for working so hard. He believed that each generation should do better than the one that came before it, and was always willing to sacrifice as an investment in that next generation. He encouraged his children to get an education and respected their freedom to make and learn from mistakes, while reassuring them that he would be there to offer love and support. “Spoiling” his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchild was his greatest joy. He would always tell anyone who would listen, “I am so proud of my children and grandchildren.” He affectionately coined them “The Mobley Clan.” After retirement, he began a second career as “Grandaddy Daycare,” caring for his grandsons, Grant and Garrett and great grandson Ryder, who just turned 5 years old. But being grandad was already a familiar role for him. It was a role first mastered years before with his eldest grandchildren, Bryan, Jr. and Brittany—his only granddaughter and “apple of his eye.” Falas enjoyed taking the grandkids to school, doctor’s appointments, sporting events, and school programs. Admired for his constant presence and loving nature, he became “Grandad Falas” to a large, extended network of friends. In his spare time, he could usually be found fishing with family and friends, or washing and waxing his car. He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife Maxine; two sons, Darrell (Dore) and Bryan (Shantelle); four grandchildren, Bryan Jr. (Ranea), Brittany ‘Britt’, Grant, and Garrett; one great grandson, Ryder, whom was his “Best Friend;” three brothers, Curtis (Tangee) Mobley, (Austin, Texas), Melvin (Theodosia) Mobley, (Abingdon, MD), Eric Mobley, (Rockville, SC); three sisters, Portia (Josephus) Brown, (Baltimore, MD), Vickie Johnson, (Baltimore, MD), and Sarah ‘Cathy’ Smith, (Charlotte, NC), brother-in-laws, Alex 'Tom' R. Adams, (Eureka, NC), Gary 'Kirby' T. White, (Baltimore, MD), and Walter 'Sam' Williams, (Baltimore, MD), god-daughter, Shaneka M. Williams, (Baltimore, MD) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Falas is preceded in death by his parents, Falas, Sr., and Willie Mobley; his sisters, Jessie Mobley and Margaret (Walter 'Sam') Williams; mother-in-law, Ethel Best; sister-in- laws Theodosia Mobley , Thelma McNeil, and life-long friend & fishing buddy, James Gilyard . .......Lovingly Submitted, The Family
