Charles Lane, Sr.

Charles Ralph Lane Sr., son of the late Walter and Pauline Lane was born on August 11th, 1942 in Baltimore, Md. Charles joined Israel Baptist Church at an early age where he received his first religious training. Charles relocated to Lawrenceville, Virginia when he was nine years old and joined Wilson Chapel Church. Charles was educated in the Brunswick County School System. He graduated from James Solomon Russell High School in 1959 and soon after moved back to Baltimore. Charles joined the United States Army in 1961. He received an honorable discharge in 1963. Charles loved the military. He re-enlisted into the Army Reserves where he served for 26 years. While Charles was serving in the Army Reserves, he also worked at General Motors for 32 years and retired at the age of 52. Charles joined Friendship Baptist Church in 2004 and was a member for 15 years before joining New Life Restorations Ministries under the leadership of Reverend Michael Addisson. In 1960, Charles met Frances Stark and they were joined in holy matrimony on November 18th, 1961. From this union were born two sons, Charles Jr. and Gregory. Charles loved sports, watching westerns, playing pinochle and traveling. He especially enjoyed cruises. Charles loved luxury vehicles, but his prized possession was a 1978 sky blue Lincoln Continental with sky blue interior. Charles enjoyed gardening, growing various types of vegetables. But he was especially proud of the accomplishment of growing the second hottest pepper in the world. Charles was also a music lover enjoying oldies but goodies, with his favorite artist being Sam Cooke. Charles loved spending time with his family, especially all of his grandchildren. After many years, he was overjoyed by the birth of his only granddaughter, Lia, who he adored. Charles and Lia had a special bond. He never missed a school performance or dance recital until his health began to decline. Charles loved Christmas and took pleasure in decorating not only his house, but Greg’s house as well, so that Lia’s Christmas would be extra special. Charles leaves to cherish his most memorable memories his devoted wife of 61 years, Frances Lane; four children, Charles Jr. (Kimberly), Greg (Roslyn), Sandra (Shervin) and Pamela; six grandsons, Sean (who preceded him in death), Rashad, Christian, Shervin Jr., Tristan and Alexander; two granddaughters, Lia and Christina; two sisters, Maggie and Rosa; one sister-in-law, Al Blanch; two brothers that preceded him in death, Walter and Donald; four great-grandchildren; one goddaughter; a dear friend and brother in Christ, John Stokes; and a host of relatives and friends.
