Austin Hayward Jones

AUSTIN HAYWARD JONES was born on Christmas Day 1982, to the late LaVoy Jones and Bobette Watts Hitchcock (formerly Jones) in Baltimore, Maryland. He passed away on Friday, June 13, 2025, following a tragic automobile accident in Baltimore, Maryland, at the age of 42. Austin remained at home with Bobette for the first 20 months of his life. In 1984, he attended Oak Ridge Nursery School, where his mother, Bobette, was his teacher. He quickly figured out to call her “Ms. Bobette” at school and “Mommy” at home. Austin attended Grace & St. Peter’s School, Lida Lee Tall School, The Cathedral School, The Park School and graduated from Forest Park High School in 2000. He retained close friendships from each school. He also briefly attended Howard University. Austin worked at several companies, developing strong communication skills, and gaining expertise in warehouse operations and cable functions. He was well liked and respected for giving his best in every position he held. His experience led him to his final position as Lead Shipping and Receiving at Beynon Sports Surface, Inc., where he was loved and admired for his knowledge and reliability. Austin gave his life to God at a young age, and he and Bobette had many conversations about Jesus and salvation throughout his life. Austin and Bobette were very close, sharing a similar droll sense of humor and keen ability to observe and “read” people. Austin proudly embraced being a “Mama’s Boy” and always helped his mother whenever she needed him, without complaining. After her husband’s passing in February 2025, she invited Austin to move in with her. They shared many long talks about life, relationships, children and God’s plans. Austin was very aware of the many times God had spared him from negative consequences, understanding that our time on earth is up to Him. The last 2 ½ months they shared together were priceless to them both. Austin shared a special bond with his grandparents, the late Robert and Jacquelyn Watts, spending many days and nights at their home through the years. Austin also enjoyed the annual Watts Family Reunions, introducing his children to this family tradition. The family shared countless memories together, including summer vacations in Cape May, New Jersey, which Austin fondly called one of his happiest places. His bond with his cousins, Marc Broady and D’ona Norton Ogle, was a lifelong friendship that earned them the title of “The Three Amigos.” Austin was known as “Uncle Aus” to the children of family and friends. Austin married his childhood sweetheart, Tiara Washington, and they had two daughters, Alayna (2003) and Azaria (2004), and the “A-Squad” was born! Shortly after Alayna’s birth, Austin enlisted in the U.S. Army and completed basic training. However, once he went home to visit his new family, he realized military life would keep him away from them and chose a different path. In 2011, Austin was blessed with his first son, Aidan, with Brandi Giles. The A-Squad grew to four! In 2015, he married Farrah Davis, and together they had two children, Autumn (2015) and Austin Jr. (2019), bringing the A-Squad to six! In 2016, Austin met Monique Hubbard, and they became engaged in 2020. Austin easily embraced Monique’s daughter Camille, and in 2022, he and Monique welcomed a baby boy, Achilles, bringing the A-Squad to 7 strong! Austin embraced fatherhood with unwavering devotion and was very good at caring for and about his children. Everyone who knew Austin and saw him interacting with his children knew they were his priority. He disciplined them with love and guidance, was affectionate and spent as much quality time as he could with each child. He was there to support his children at every milestone and could be heard loudly yelling out “A-Squad” at all the graduations and music and dance recitals when his children came onto the stage, ensuring they knew he was there for them. Whenever the family inquired as to who was coming to an event, they just asked if the A-Squad was coming. Austin was on his way to ensuring each child had a necklace with an “A” on it like his own to show their solidarity. Austin shared the love and compassion in his heart with everyone he met. After his death, many of his friends shared with Bobette how he would check in on them weekly, ensure he was with them for birthdays and other special occasions, and he demonstrated that he was a solid friend. Austin’s Ashburton neighborhood friends remained a close group until his passing. As each had their own families, they were sure to get together for Father’s Days, July 4th and their various birthdays. Austin leaves to cherish his memory: his mother, Bobette Watts-Hitchcock (Claude-deceased); children, Alayna Ariel, Azaria Ayanna, Aidan Andrew, Autumn Aliya, Austin Hayward Jr. and Achilles Augustus; brothers, Brandon and Jason Jones; stepsister, Heather Elisia Hitchcock; fiancée, Monique Hubbard and her daughter Camille; aunts, Jacquelyn Broady, Genelle Watts (Adrianne) and Judy Jones; uncles, David Jones and Johnny Jones; along with a host of family and friends
