Marion Russell

Marion Ann Russell passed away peacefully on January 21, 2021 at Springwell Assisted Living Facility. She is survived by her husband of almost 67 years, George L. Russell Jr., her son George L. Russell, III, her daughter-in-law Devy P. Russell, two grandchildren, Madison N. Russell and George L. Russell, IV, a sister Doris Lynch, brother-in-law Herman Williams Jr., as well as many nieces and nephews. Born in Baltimore City on July 29, 1933, she was the youngest of four daughters of Algie and Nellie White. Marion attended St. Francis Academy graduating in June 1952. She also attended Morgan State University from 1952 to 1954 and later graduated from Cortez W. Peters Business School in 1956. Later that year, she worked as a secretary in the Psychiatric Institute at University Hospital. She continued to excel and was soon hired as a secretarial Supervisor with the Internal Revenue Service where she served with excellence for the next 18 years. Upon her retirement, Marion devoted herself to supporting her husband’s law practice, political, and philanthropic endeavors as well as raising their young son. Marion continued to engage in community improvement efforts through membership in the Baltimore Chapter of the Links Incorporated where she served as treasurer for a number of years. In addition, she served as President of the Baltimore based Helping Hands Club which was devoted to helping Baltimore families in need. She also engaged in countless hours of volunteer work for the March of Dimes, the Maryland Committee for the Day Care of Children and All Saints Catholic Church where she was a devoted congregant for over 50 years. In her spare time, she loved traveling, flower arranging, cooking/baking (her chocolate chip cakes were divine), and getting together with family and friends for barbecues, holidays, the Preakness Stakes, and Orioles and Ravens games. Marion especially enjoyed Gamma Boule’ and Guardsman functions. Once her grandchildren were born, however, nothing matched the time she spent with them. Sleepovers, field trips to the zoo and aquarium and visits with friends and relatives created memories she treasured for over 20 years. Lord knows she has the photo albums to prove it!! The family wishes to thank everyone for their prayers, love and support during this difficult time. She will be missed. Her selfless love will live on in all who knew her.
