Gloria A. Austin

Gloria Adelaide Austin was born on August 13, 1937, in New Rocehelle , New York. She was the third child of the late David and Buenetta Springsteen. She went home to be with the LordJesus Christ on January 4, 2024, at Future Care Rehabilitation Center in Randallstown, Maryland. Gloria graduated from New Rochelle High School in 1955 and attended Oneonta State College for one year. When she was a sophomore in high school Gloria met the love of he life, John Austin and the two became one in Holy matrimony on August 29, 1959. From their union she birthed four children, John David, Steven, Ronald, and Valerie. She delighted in being a devoted wife to her husband and a stay-at-home mom. Gloria joined the workforce in 1994 and was the first employed by Lilian Vernon, Inc., and later as a data entry clerk. She retired from Met Life in 2004. John and Gloria were married for 63 years and resided in Mount Vernon, New York for many years. Gloria gave her life to the Lord Jesus Christ as a child and become a member of Saint Catherine AME Zion Church in New Rochelle, New York. She loved serving and glorifying God using the gift of using her voice as she faithfully sang in the Sanctuary Choir and Mass Choir. She was also an active member of the Lay Council. In addition to serving in ministry and serving her family. Gloria's hobbies included a love for cooking, being an animal enthusiast and avid gardener. Every spring and summer her yard would decorated with beautiful, and colorful landscapes designed by her hands. She loved to make home-cooked meals for family and friends, and her brownies were always a special treat to everyone who tasted the, Gloria also truly had the gift of mercy and a pure heart as she cared for those who were hurting and suffering. This include volunteer work, feeding, and serving residents at the Wartburg Senior Rehabilitation Center in Mount Vernon, New York, after retirement. In an effort to care and keep their parents close as they aged by God's grace, Gloria's children moved her and their dad to Owings Mills, Maryland in 2019. During her time at Future Care, Gloria enjoyed talking and singing with her roommates and caregivers. With the wonderful innovations of technology, she was able to use her portal device often to facetime family and listen to gospel music. She will be remembered as a loving, dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and a devoted active member of her church family. Gloria is survived by her husband, John Austin; sons, Steven (Avis) and Ronald (Denise); daughter, Valerie Austin ; granddaughter. Sarah Sumter (Anthony); grandson, Michael Austin; great-grandson, Maverick and Lennox Sumter; and a host of other family members and friends.
