Dorothy Louise Everett

DOROTHY LOUISE EVERETT was born to the late Otis and Iantha High in Zebulon, North Carolina on May 18, 1937. She made her transition, comfortably and peacefully, from Earth to Glory early in the morning on April 5, 2023 in Owings Mills, MD in the comforts of her home shared with daughter, Cathelyn, while listening to piano music on her television. This was a victory to happen peacefully at home, for Dorothy had been admitted to surrounding hospitals over and over again. Dorothy received her education and graduated from James E. Shepard High School in Zebulon, North Carolina. She was raised in a very large tight-knit family and community under her parents and grandparents, the late Sam and Sophie Adams, one of the few black families to own their own farm, and over 130 acres. She was very gifted in high school and known to her peers and teachers, alike, for her great artistic ability in drawing, and for being a math whiz. She later moved to Baltimore, Maryland in 1956. She met and married the late Frank A. Harris, and had five children, Cathelyn, Phyllis, Charlene, Julie, and the late Rodney Harris. She was a stay-at-home mom for many years. As her children grew, she became a professional seamstress, and was very good at it. She then married the late Min. Willie Everett. She took classes and became a private duty caregiver. Because of her skill, kind and loving spirit, she was chosen by the family owning most of Ellicott City to take care of their mom until her passing. Dorothy was a loyal, dedicated and committed soul to her family, church, and friends. She ushered, sang on many choirs, cooked and baked for many funeral repasts of families she didn’t even know. She was known for her cakes and sweet potato pies. She conducted many yard sales, and was known as the yard sale lady. She knew how to save a dollar, too. She was a beautiful person who always emphasized on doing what was right, and was a blessing wherever she went. She accepted Christ as her Savior in 1969. She joined Mt. Zion United Church of God in Christ, Rev. Bessie Brooks, and was a faithful active member for many years. She later joined Refuge Way of the Cross Church, Bishop Leroy Cannady, and was faithful there for many years. She, also, helped in ministry Bishop Jerome Stokes (CRL), and Bishop Barnes. She heard a family friend was starting a ministry and shortly before her illness joined to help her, Pastor Sharon Allen, God’s Unlimited Power Ministry. She fought many obstacles and battles with her health, but Dot was a strong trooper. No one thought she would outlive some of the people she did, but she did. Dorothy fought a good fight, finished her course, and she did keep her faith. She will receive her crown of righteousness which the Lord promised her on that great day. The essence of her spirit will surely be missed by her family. She leaves to cherish her memory: children, Cathelyn, Phyllis (Lawrence), Charlene (David), Julie (Vernon); grandchildren: Ashley, Monique, Corey, Devin, Celeste, Jonathan, Joshua, Tika, Brian, Shanice, and Tanisha; siblings, Lindy, Valerie, and David; preceded in death by her sister and brother, Florene High and Joe Harris; 22 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Honorable mention to her caregivers, granddaughter, Ashley, Shawnta Wilson and Shal Olujimi. Also, great appreciation for her Dr. Courtin, and the staff of the Center for Successful Aging
