Susie Lee McNair

Let us celebrate the life of our loved one, Susie Ernestine (Lee) McNair, who transitioned to her heavenly home Tuesday, January 5, 2021. She was born on February 3, 1935 to the late William Wiggins Lee and Mary Hardy Lee in Littleton, NC. Susie was educated in the Halifax County Public School System. She Attended Terrapin, Tabron and Goldmine Elementary Schools, and McIver High School all in Littleton, graduating from Eastman High in Enfield, NC. She also attended City College of Baltimore—now BCCC—where she studied nursing. She enjoyed school and singing in the school Glee Club throughout High School. Susie was reared in a Christian home, where Christ was the head. She accepted Christ at an early age at Lee’s Chapel Baptist Church. After moving to Baltimore, MD, she continued her spiritual journey at New Psalmist Baptist Church where she was a Charter member of the Division of Health Services Ministry. She enjoyed worshiping at church and attended faithfully until her health failed. She loved her Savior and was a prayer warrior. Her faith and God’s mercy were evident in her life. Susie met and married the late Jerome McNair. God blessed this union with five wonderful children. Susie started her career at Johns Hopkins and Sinai Hospitals as a nursing assistant. For the bulk of her career—more than thirty years—she worked at Spring Grove Hospital in Catonsville, MD, from which she retired. Her coworkers and supervisors remembered her as a dedicated and hard worker. When you hear the phrase, “Home is where the heart is,” be assured that Susie comes to mind. She was kind and loving to everyone. She was a confident and generous person who loved helping family and friends. She had a quick wit, and she would “pull you up,” if you “monk “with her. She did not put up with foolishness; and she did not take any “ham sandwich”, as she would say. Oh, how Susie passionately loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a strong, protective, and devoted mother, grandmother, and great – grandmother. She continued to be very close to her children until the end of her life. She talked to them every day, to check to see if they were alright; and was very often seen with them, especially her daughter Glenda. She also enjoyed talking to her sisters, her close friends, and neighbors. Susie and her family were all excellent dancers and we often got fine entertainment. Oh, what a show. She was an avid Raven’s fan—always dressed in her Raven’s attire and faithfully routing them on every game. She also liked to watch “The Voice” and her religious shows. Listening to her favorite religious recordings as also a great passion for her. Susie loved her entire family clan and every year looked forward to the Hardy Family Reunion. She will be remembered for all the love and happiness that she brought into our lives. The Christian example that Susie set will be with us always. She cherished her long-standing membership with the New Psalmist Baptist Church and found great joy over the many years, fellow shipping within the church until she was unable to physically attend. She continued her fellowship with the numerous church ministers who visited her frequently at her home. Her light truly did shine. She leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her life two remaining children, Dr. Glenda Mosley of Woodstock, MD and Jerome McNair, Jr. (Tammi) of San Antonio, TX. She was predeceased by sons, Michael and Kenneth, and daughter Vicky. Her four grandchildren – Larry Mosley, Shanika Pringle, LaKendra McNair, Esquire McNair (Nikki), four great grandchildren – Kaniya, Brandon, Cayden, and Mackenzie will also cherish her memory. Her spirit will live on through her sisters – Bernice Robinson, Mable Palmer (Elvin), and Etoile de Hawkins (Vernon). She was predeceased by her sisters—Maggie Johnson, Saluda Williams, and Elizabeth Moore and a special niece, Doris Haley. Susie’s memory will also be cherished by her sisters-in-law, Flora, Laverne, and Thelma (Roosevelt), brother-in-law, Wesley, and Curtis McNair, and special friends, Emma Goines, Hattie Ward, and Ms. Powell, nieces and nephews and a host of devoted relatives and friends. May she rest in eternal peace. “Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted.” (Matthew 5:4)
