Sheila L. Black

Sheila Laverne Black, affectionately known as "Peppermint Patty", was born September 10, 1949 in Baltimore, Maryland. The second of seven children, Sheila would spend the next 70 years living, loving and laughing unapologetically, She departed this life on December 24, 2019 after a lengthy illness. Sheila was preceded in death by both parents, three brothers, Roderick Sr., (Reds), Andre, John Wallace Jr. (Koolie), and one sister Catherine (Boosie). Sheila attended Christian Memorial Church and dedicated her life to Christ at an early age. Sheila was educated in Baltimore City School System. While attending school, Sheila proudly worked at Tommy Tucker. a local five-and dime store. In 1967, Sheila graduated from Edmondson High School. Shortly thereafter, Sheila was blessed to meet John Spencer and they were gifted with their first child Dawan Gregory Spencer. After having Dawan, Sheila began her career with the United Stated Postal Service. Later, she met and married Ralph Black Sr. From this union, they welcomed their son Ralph Black Jr. (Spanky). During her career, she held many positions and had a lasting effect on everyone she encountered. After 35 years of service, she retired from the United States Postal Service to spend time with family and friends. Sheila loved her family and had a fond adoration for dogs. If there was one thing that held her heart as much as much as her family, it was the Baltimore Orioles. There wasn't a game she didn't attend or watch at home. Draped in all of her O's gear. Sheila would sit in front of her TV as if she was along the third base line with her beer and peanuts, rooting them on with every pitch. "No fool, no fun" was a saying that she always lived by. Her love of family and her zest for life made every interaction with Sheila and adventure. Cherishing the memories of Sheila are her two sons, Dawan Spenecer (April) and Ralph Black Jr. (Debbie):daughter \, India Banks; sister Deborah Pringle; brother, Gerald Brownley Sr.; two sisters-in-law, Delores and Darlene Brownley; brother-in-law, Melvin Pringle Sr.; two aunts. Cahterine Ray and Ginny Walker; Two uncles, Melvin Walker and Leroy Parrish; grandchildren, Devin, Brianna, Markieth Jr., Jessica, Naomi, Tevin, and Kory; great-grandchildren, Kai, Kannon, Donavan, Devon, Tevin Jr., Kendall, Charleigh, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends and all who knew her.
