Ruth E. Courts Turner

Ruth E. Courts-Turner was sixth of thirteen children, born September 12, 1933, to the late Sam and Ruth Courts in Reidsville, North Carolina. Six brothers and four sisters preceded her in death. Ruth was educated in the Rockingham County Public Schools. She accepted Christ at age 13. In 1955, she relocated to Baltimore, Maryland, where she matriculated at Baltimore City Community College and studied Business, Math and English. Ruth met and later married Arlmer “Boyd” Turner. From this union they were blessed with three sons, Larry, Arlmer Keith (preceded her in death) and Dwayne. She worked on an assembly line for U.S. Can Company where she retired after 42 years of employment. In 1967, Ruth joined the Mount Moriah Baptist Church, under the pastorate of the late Rev. Boykin Jessie. She enjoyed going to church and serving the Lord. Ruth sung on the Women’s Choir and served as the Vice-President of the Green Perpetual Club. She was the secretary of Monday Night Bible Class; attended the Saturday Morning Bible Class and served faithfully with others at the State Conventions. Ruth put the “C” in Classy, always elegant and sophisticated. She loved to dress in her glamourous embellished suits with the beautiful hats, matching shoes and purse. She really enjoyed shopping not always alone but with her granddaughter, Kisha also. “Baby Ruth” which she was affectionately called, loved her family and her family loved her too! She was always proud of all their accomplishments and made sure everyone that she talked to was aware as well. Family gatherings and holidays were always enjoyed at her house. Whatever the occasion you knew, there would be fun, a lot of laughs and good food, especially her potato salad. As the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, one day our earthly body will be called home to rest. On Tuesday, February 22, 2022 after a brief hospital stay Baby Ruth quietly transitioned. Our “Queen, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Cousin, and Friend” received her wings. Ruth leaves to always cherish her memories: two sons; Larry and Dwayne; two granddaughters; Lakisha and Melina; two grandsons; Dwayne Jr and Larry Jr; one great-grandson EJ; two sisters, Shirley Courts and Polly Caple; one brother-in law, Ted Caple; two daughters-in law, Marsha and Joyce; two Godsons, Tyrone Hooker and Tyrell Millett; one Goddaughter, Lisa McCallum; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
